Dr. Smith is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He completed his Bachelor of Liberal Arts at the University of Mississippi and his M.D. at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. He preformed his internship and residency at Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Following a year as Chief Resident, he completed his nephrology fellowship at the University of Virginia Health System in Charlettesville, Virginia. Dr. Smith is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology. He is a member of the Renal Physicians Association and American Society of Nephrology.
