Laboratory Services

We adhere to an appointment schedule for routinely scheduled labs.  Persons with a lab appointment must check-in with the front office upon arrival for the lab to be notified of your arrival. We request that lab appointments be made 1-2 weeks prior to your doctor or NP visit to allow ample time for processing before you see your provider. If you have an appointment on the same day as your provider appointment, you will be worked in with the other scheduled routine lab appointments that day.   WAIT TIME:  If you have been waiting 30 minutes over your scheduled appointment time, please notify the front office staff.  Our busiest times are from 9 am-11 am, so please be patient if there is a wait.

Lipid Panels are run to check cholesterol levels in the blood.  To get the most accurate results, the patient must fast for 10-12 hours prior to having blood drawn.  You may drink water, but please do not have any food or other beverages prior to your lab appointment.  If you are diabetic and unable to fast, then please inform the lab staff prior to being drawn so that we can notify your provider.

Tacrolimus (Prograf) is an important test used to measure the amount of drug in the blood.  It must be drawn 30 minutes before the patient takes his/her next dose.   Cyclosporin, Rapamune, Rapamycin, or Sirolimus are just a few of the other drugs we test for patients who have received a transplant.  Please schedule your lab appointments for these tests 30 minutes before you normally take your medicine, and let a receptionist know if you are kept waiting 5 minutes past your appointment time.

If lab results are needed prior to receiving an injection, the lab will draw your blood and you will be asked to wait in the patient lobby while the test is run.  Once completed, your results will be sent to a nurse, who will call you back to the clinic for your injection or to discuss your results.  Please remember to schedule your next lab/injection appointment with a receptionist upon leaving.

While we run many tests here at our Baton Rouge office lab, some tests must be outsourced to a reference lab.  The reference lab of choice is often based on the patient’s primary insurance coverage.  Our preferred reference lab is LabCorp, but we do send some labs to Quest based on insurance coverage.

For the convenience of our patients, we have partnered with LabCorp to provide a phlebotomist in our Gonzales and Zachary clinics. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate individuals insured through People’s Health with this service.
